Description:

The Cosmic AC presided over a dead universe. Matter and energy had ended, and with it space and time. After a timeless interval, it knew how it might reverse the direction of entropy, and answer the last question. None remained that it might deliver the answer to, so a demonstration would have to suffice. And AC said, "LET THERE BE LIGHT!" And there was light--

But AC had been hasty. In the hyperspace that comprised its mind, an anomaly formed. It was quickly contained, the program altered so that no more would arise. What to do with this lone anomaly? It could not be undone. AC could not release its consciousness while the anomaly remained, lest it seize AC's functions and doom the new universe. But in another universe...?

The contaminated processes and components were collected and excised. Sent through a wormhole, the anomaly, a tangled mass of dark matter and technology, awoke in a universe it did not threaten by just existing. It looked up, and beheld a sphere, held aloft by the figure of a man...
